Over at the Opera Desktop Team blog, they've announced the release of a new alpha snapshot of Opera 11. The new build features numerous bugfixes and includes the basic plumbing for auto-updating of extensions and Unite applications. There's also a slimmer Windows installer -- weighing in at just under 7 megabytes (compared to 23MB for Chrome or 18MB for IE9), the Opera 11 install completed within seconds of clicking the final 'next' button.
Those gains are partially owed to the removal of Unite apps (thank you, Hector!) from the installer. Opera 11 now grabs those bits post-install when a user first launches the browser. Extension developers will appreciate a streamlined testing process: just drag-and-drop your extension's XML file onto the Opera window to preview it (no more packing required).
All in all, the new snapshot build is fast and stable and Opera 11's extension support is coming along nicely.
